What are Website Keywords?

The keyword tag appears in the <head> section of each page, and contains a list of keywords and phrases that are relevant to your site.

The keyword tag used to be a highlyinfluential tag used by search engines to index websites, however due to abuse the tag now carries less influence with the search engines.

Adding irrelevant keywords may attract more traffic to your site, however it's likely to beuntargeted traffic and the visitors probably wont be interested in your siteanyway.

The keywords in the META tag should be separated by commas, NOT spaces, and keywords should not be repeated. A list of 5-8 keywords or phrases is generally considered sufficient. Keywords tag is not used as much as it used to be but it is worth adding to your pages for older search engines tht consider them important.

Here is an example of the meta data tag:

<meta name="keywords" content="website keywords, keyword tag" />

The keywords tag should be different for each webpage.
